Dr Stephen Wong, Head of the CEPU, met with Ms Sharifa Leung, Managing Director of 3 Hani Enterprises Limited, and Ms Yuen Ying-sum, Executive Director of GBA Halal Certification Centre, to discuss the opportunities and challenges of halal certification in Hong Kong.
Ms. Yuen Ying Sum, Executive Director of the GBA Halal Certification Centre (GHCC), recently invited by Dr. Stephen Wong from the Chief Executive Policy Unit for a meeting to discuss the global halal certification system and the challenges currently facing Hong Kong.
In her statement following the meeting, Ms. Yuen emphasized the importance of building a credible halal ecosystem in the region. “Hong Kong is home to GHCC, and as a Hong Kong-based organization, our commitment to supporting and developing a robust halal ecosystem is paramount,” she noted. “We believe that government support is crucial for manufacturers and local businesses to thrive in this sector.”
Ms. Yuen expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to address these pressing matters with Dr. Wong, highlighting that the responsibility for sustaining halal standards lies with the Muslim community. “We appreciate the encouragement from our community as we work together to enhance the halal landscape in Hong Kong,” she added.
