Food

Why do Muslims consider Halal important?

It is the duty of a Muslim to follow the guidelines from God.

With regards to food, it’s mentioned in the Qur’an:

“And eat of what Allāh has provided for you [which is] lawful and good. And fear Allāh, in whom you are believers.” [Al-Maa’idah 5:88]

Halal
Certification

Halal certification caters to consumer demands, tapping into a vast market. The increasing popularity of Halal products is driven by the assurance of meeting Halal requirements and maintaining product quality.
  • Enterprises with products produced locally or overseas.
  • Family-owned businesses looking to export to Muslim countries, attracting both local and overseas buyers.
  • Large multinational companies that trust our GPA facilities and product certification.
You can apply online using our Online Application Form or contact us directly. We provide support at every stage of the process. Upon acceptance of your application, you will receive an agreement, including a confidentiality agreement from us.
Apart from the expanding market for Halal products, the benefits of Halal certification include:
  • Showcasing an inclusive image by meeting Muslim consumer needs.
  • Attracting companies through larger market shares, as Muslims constitute a quarter of the global population.
  • Building trust in your products over competitors.
Halal regulations uphold hygienic practices and food quality standards. The GHCC logo assures product acceptance in Muslim markets and countries.
The expenses for Halal certification vary based on the number of products certified, the type of products manufactured, and the size of the business. You can obtain a preliminary certification cost estimate through our online application form.
After submitting your application, it typically takes 2 weeks for us to review all the submitted documents. The duration may vary based on the volume of applications received. Once we schedule a site visit for inspection, you can expect to receive a report within an estimated 2 weeks. In cases where the company does not initially meet the certification requirements, applicants can make necessary improvements for future approval.
The site inspection typically lasts 2-4 hours, depending on the number of products. Efforts will be made to integrate Halal requirements into your organization’s current Quality Management System, prioritizing a seamless incorporation without significant disruptions to your business operations.

Halal
Market

In 2021, 1.9 billion Muslims worldwide consumed US$2 trillion worth of Halal products. The value of Halal products increased by 9% compared to 2020. The global Halal economy is projected to grow by 7.8% by 2025, reaching an estimated value of around US$3 trillion.

To export products to Malaysia and other Muslim countries, obtaining a Halal certification is crucial. This certification is necessary when exporting food, beverages, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals to Muslim countries like Malaysia and Indonesia.

Products must be approved by an accredited JAKIM certification body to be sold in the Malaysian market. Globally, 84 organizations are JAKIM-accredited, the GBA Halal Certification Centre adopts the JAKIM standard thus meeting international requirements.
